Travel Insurance for Thailand

Thailand is a fantastic year-round travel destination that's just a short 4-hour flight away. From Bangkok's lively streets to Chiang Mai's temples and Phuket's islands, the country's welcoming culture and direct flights from India have made it a popular destination. With so much to explore, having Thailand travel insurance for your adventures adds a layer of ease and assurance to your plans.

It ensures you're covered for any trip emergencies that come your way. These can be common situations, such as losing your passport while visiting busy places like the Chatuchak Weekend Market or the Pratunam Market in Bangkok. If that happens, we'll guide you through the next steps to get a new passport.

Another frequent issue is delayed checked-in baggage. Let's say you arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport, but your luggage is delayed. In this case, you can file a claim and receive a payout to buy essentials like clothes and toiletries, so your trip stays comfortable, even if things don't go as planned.

And that's just the start. With IndusInd travel insurance (formerly Reliance travel insurance), you're covered from the moment you board your flight to the time you return home. Claims are easy to file on the go via the IndusInd Insurance app, so whether it's a lost passport or a baggage delay, help is always just a tap away.

Why 8 Crore+ Policyholders Choose Us?

Exploring Thailand should be all about unforgettable moments, not unexpected expenses. IndusInd Thailand Travel Insurance (formerly Reliance Thailand Travel Insurance) provides affordable and dependable coverage designed to protect your journey every step of the way.

Benefits of Buying Thailand Travel Insurance

Cashless Medical Coverage

Bangkok's known to have some of the best street food! But if the food doesn't agree with you and you need to visit the hospital, your medical bills are covered. We offer cashless medical coverage of up to USD 500,000* (and USD 500* for emergency dental treatments). Meaning all you need to do is submit your policy at the front desk, and we take care of the rest! This coverage applies to all certified hospitals in Thailand.

24/7 Emergency Cash Support

A lost wallet after a fun night out in Thailand's Chinatown or one of its famous night markets can quickly derail your travel plans. But worry not! We offer emergency cash up to USD 300.* This support is available 24/7, so you can call us anytime you need help. This benefit ensures you have enough on-hand cash for food, transport and accommodation so you can continue your exploration of Thailand.

Flight Delays & Connecting Flights

Airports like Suvarnabhumi and Phuket International can get busy during festivals like Songkran. So, if your flight gets delayed, we've got you covered. We cover flight delays over 12 hours up to USD 60 per day*. This coverage can also come in handy if your next connecting flight from Thailand gets pushed unexpectedly.

Lost Baggage Support

Let's say you arrive at Bangkok, but your luggage doesn't, and the airport staff informs you that your luggage is delayed. In this situation, you will get up to USD 100* for checked-in baggage delays that exceed 12 hours. If your luggage is lost, you get up to USD 1500*. This can help you buy essentials like clothes and toiletries.

Personal Liability

Traffic in cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Hat Yai is known to be quite severe, especially during peak hours. So if you're renting a car and accidentally scratch a parked scooter or hit a street vendor's cart, our personal liability cover has you covered. We cover up to USD 200,000*, so you don't pay out of pocket.

Loss of Passport

Moving between Thailand's famous islands or cities? - Switching between taxis, ferries, trains, and tuk-tuks often increases the risk of losing your passport along the way. That's why we cover up to USD 300* to help you get a replacement passport. This includes reissue-related costs in Thailand.

Transport

If you're taking local transport in Bangkok, go for Momego or Transit Bangkok; if you're travelling between cities, there's 12Go. You can also use ride-sharing apps like Grab, Bolt and inDrive, since they're cheaper than private taxis.

FAQ On Thailand Travel Insurance

Is Thailand travel insurance mandatory?

Travel insurance isn't mandatory for Thailand, but immigration officials highly recommend getting one. This is because the currency conversion rate between the Rupee and Thai Baht (฿1 → ₹2.65; approx) can result in you having to spend more in case of a trip emergency, like a flight cancellation, where you'd need a refund on tickets.

Note: The given currency conversion rate was taken on 16/07/2025, at 4:00 pm IST and is subject to change. Please ensure you check the current Rupee to Thai Baht conversion rates here before proceeding.

What are the new entry rules for Thailand?

From May 2026, Indians can enter Thailand via Visa on Arrival for up to 15 days. Additionally, all foreign nationals must have a digital arrival card 3 days before arrival.

You can apply for your digital arrival card on the official Thailand TDAC portal. You'll need your passport details and your trip details, like your accommodation information. You may also need to add your health status if you're travelling to Thailand from select countries or if your flight is listed by the Ministry of Public Health. You can check the list of countries that require this information on the Thai MOFA website. So, you will only need to present your health status if you're transiting from one of the countries on that list.

How much does travel insurance for Thailand cost?

Our Thailand travel insurance plans start from ₹306*. Your total policy price is determined by taking into account factors like how much coverage you need, the duration of your trip and how many people you're travelling with.

Several elements determine how much you'll pay for your travel insurance policy. Understanding these can help you choose the right coverage without compromising your budget:

  • Destination: Countries with high healthcare costs, like Thailand, tend to have higher premiums.
  • Age of Traveller: Senior Citizens (over 61 years) are considered higher risk, which usually increases premium amounts.
  • Trip Duration: Longer trips mean longer coverage periods, which can raise the cost of your policy.
  • Type of Plan: Comprehensive plans or those with higher sum insured limits result in higher premiums.
  • Number of Travellers: Family or group policies have different pricing compared to individual plans.

What are some key tips to remember when travelling to Thailand?

Keep these simple tips in mind to make your journey smoother, safer and more enjoyable from start to finish:

  • Respect temple etiquette, dress modestly and remove shoes when required.
  • Use local currency for small purchases and always carry change.
  • Keep digital and physical copies of important documents (passport, visa, Thailand travel insurance).
  • You can either enable international roaming on your SIM or buy a Thai tourist SIM at the airport or a convenience store. Getting them from providers like AIS, TrueMove H, DTAC and Nomad eSIM is a cheaper way to stay connected throughout your trip.

What essentials should one pack for travelling to Thailand?

As a general rule, take twice as much cash and half as much clothing, since you can always use the laundromats nearby or take advantage of your hotel's laundry services if they offer them. Ideally, you want to avoid overpacking, but here are some essentials to keep on hand during your trip:

  • Thailand uses Type A and C power sockets, so pack a universal adapter.
  • Bring a first-aid kit and any required prescription medicine.
  • Pack swimwear and beach gear if visiting islands like Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao and Koh Chang.
  • Carry light clothing, sunscreen, mosquito repellent and reusable water bottles.

What safety precautions should one follow when travelling to Thailand?

Staying alert and following these basic safety guidelines can make your visit to Thailand safer and more enjoyable:

  • Store your passport, Thailand travel insurance and other travel documents safely.
  • Save local emergency numbers:
    • Police: 191
    • Ambulance: 1669
    • Tourist Police: 1155
    • Tourism Helpline: 1672
  • Follow traffic rules, especially when renting cars, scooters or bikes.
  • Know local laws and customs to avoid fines or legal trouble.

What are some ways to save money when travelling to Thailand?

These budget-friendly tips will help you explore Thailand affordably without missing out on key experiences:

  • Use public transport like buses, metros, tuk-tuks or apps like Grab and Bolt instead of private taxis.
  • Choose budget-friendly apps like MakeMyTrip or Booking.com, as they often offer cheaper price listings.
  • Travel during the off-season (April to October) for lower airfares and hotel rates.
  • Set Google Alerts for flight and hotel deals, or check platforms like Klook for discounts.
  • Look for free or discounted entry to temples, parks and museums (check their official websites) since they do offer those on select days.
